BOOMERANG LINKSTHAT RETURN AUTOMATICALLY TO THE ORIGINAL PAGEYou can make links that take browsers to a new page and thenreturn automatically to the starting point on the original page. A simple HTML <META> tag on the linked page will tell the browser how many seconds to wait before returning to the original page. This is useful, for example, with a long page that offers brief looks at examples of what is being discussed, after which the visitor will want to continue reading where he or she left off. To see an example of what we're talking about, CLICK HERE for the "backin10secs.html" page. (The page you go to by clicking will automatically return you here after 10 seconds, without clicking again -- unless you are using a very old browser.) To accomplish this yourself, you need only make a standard link on the original page and add a simple <META> tag in the <HEAD> portion of the linked page.
This tag Just replace "autoreturn.html" with the name of your original page and adjust the number before ";URL" to determine how many seconds the browser will wait before returning. To return to a given spot on the original page, enclose some text or graphic at that spot like this: <A NAME="matching text">words at the spot</A> and then add "#matching text" to the end of the return URL in the <META> tag. (Substitute any expression in place of "matching text" Ñ anything will work, as long as it is the same in both places except for the "#" sign in the URL only.)
